KCHS presents USS Pueblo presentation
Kewaunee County Historical Society is sponsoring a presentation on "The Spy Ship – USS Pueblo," about the famous vessel built in Kewaunee by the Kewaunee Engineering Corp. in 1944 and captured in 1968 by North Korea, where 84 crew members were held hostage for 11 months.
The riveting story will be told by Chris Sturdevant of the Cold War Museum and Richard Rogala, a former POW and crew member of the Pueblo. Sturdevent recently visited North Korea and took a tour of the USS Pueblo.
Rogala was one of North Korea's prisoners who lost 40 pounds during his captivity and credits his youth and the camaraderie of his crew for his survival. He was released in 1968 crossing the "Bridge of No Return."
The presentation will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at the society's History Center at 217 Ellis St., Kewaunee. It is free, and refreshments and a social will follow the presentation.
