Kewaunee County residents donate PPEs to sheriff's department for COVID-19 crisis

KEWAUNEE - Like all law enforcement agencies across the U.S., the Kewaunee County Sheriff's Department is keeping close watch on its supply of hard-to-find personal protective equipment (PPE) as the country deals with the COVID-19 crisis.

And, like most other law enforcement agencies, the department is finding community members stepping up to help.

As noted on the sheriff's department Facebook page, Kewaunee children Braelyn, Brooklyn, Bentley and Brystol Massart and their mother, Amber, donated a variety of PPE, including face masks, gloves, hand sanitizer and more.

And Tom Rueckl of Luxemburg made between 25 and 30 plastic face shields on his 3-D printer and donated them to the department. Sheriff Matt Joski told the Star-News that Rueckl is a 3-D printing hobbyist; many across the county have been making the plastic masks to donate to local law enforcement and health organizations.

Joski said for now, the department is in good shape for its PPEs, although donations are appreciated because of the uncertain future supply.
