Kewaunee County spring election results

Two open seats in the April 4 election in Kewaunee County were filled by write-in votes.

Jeff Dworak was voted alderperson in District 2 in the city of Kewaunee with 16 votes, with George Orr and Kurt Johnson tallying two each. All were write-in candidates after no one filed papers to run for the seat.

In the town of West Kewaunee, Shawn Siebold picked up 83 votes to become a town supervisor; Milt Swagel had 52 votes and Sue Weisser 50. The three were running as write-ins to succeed Arnold Van Goethem, who died Feb. 17 after 28 years as supervisor.

In other results, incumbent Jack Seidl, Jason Carviou and Lori L. Hurley were elected trustees in the village of Luxemburg. Seidl earned 151 votes, Carviou 121, Hurley 115 and Michael Bonk 72.

Steven Doell was voted in as the new treasurer for the town of Montpelier with 178 votes to 37 for Lisa M. Webster.

In the town of Franklin, part of the Denmark School District, incumbent Paula Larsen and Katie Rabenhorst won the two spots up for grabs on the school board. Larsen tallied 75 votes, Rabenhorst 60, Mark D. Heim, Sr. 45 and Joe Terrien 42.

Franklin voters also approved the two school referendums on the ballot: one to fund remodeling and upgrades (by an 85-37 vote) and the other to fund “non-recurring purposes” (89-31). Both measures passed overall by a little more than a 2-1 margin, 1,706-850 and 1,752-802..

County voters also reflected the statewide race for superintendent of public instruction, which incumbent Tony Evers won over Lowell Holtz with 70 percent of the vote. In Kewaunee County, Evers garnered 1,415 votes to 699 for Holtz.
