Kewaunee County taking appointments for COVID-19 vaccines this week

Posted

KEWAUNEE - The Kewaunee County Public Health Department has openings for this week’s COVID-19 vaccine clinics for anyone ages 16 and older, and individuals looking for an immediate appointment should contact the health department.

The two-dose Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine will be administered Wednesday. The single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine was scheduled to be administered Thursday until the Wisconsin Department of Health and Human Services called for a pause in its use because of reports of severe blood clots as a side effect in a limited number of patients nationwide.

Department director Cindy Kinnard said in a press release that it has additional vaccines available because it's finding people on the county's waiting list who have received their first doses of the vaccine from other sources and haven't informed the county that they can be taken off the waiting list, as well as people on the list who don't respond when contacted by the county and told they can come in for their shots.

“We're actually in a position now, where our vaccine supply is outnumbering the people on our waiting list," Kinnard said. "We want to assure that we are not wasting any doses.”

As of Monday, the health department has administered 5,655 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

To schedule an appointment, call the department at 920-388-7160.

Contact Christopher Clough at 920-741-7952, 920-562-8900 or cclough@doorcountyadvocate.com.
