Kewaunee County to recognize breastfeeding-friendly organizations

KEWAUNEE - The Kewaunee County Public Health Department has launched an initiative to recognize local businesses and organizations that have become breastfeeding friendly for their employees and patrons.

So far, five businesses and organizations have been designated as breastfeeding friendly by the county: Algoma Public Library; Autumn's Journey Assisted Living, Algoma; East Shore Industries, Algoma; Silver Leaf Manor and Linden Manor, Kewaunee; and Wiesner and Massart Funeral Home, Casco and Algoma. Others are working toward the designation.

To earn the designation, businesses and organizations are required to put a policy in place to provide a safe and private space, besides a bathroom, to pump or breastfeed; adequate time; access to a clean water source; and the ability for employees to store their milk in a refrigerator.

“We appreciate the time and effort these groups put into making this happen and hope more businesses in the county will follow the lead and create a better, more comfortable environment for breastfeeding employees in our community,” County Public Health Director Cindy Kinnard, RN, said.
