KEWAUNEE COUNTY – The Kewaunee County Parks continue to be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, except for most of the Winter Park, which is not yet open for the season. However, preparations are well underway.
Snowmaking operations have begun on the ski and tube hills, with the tube hill officially open as of this weekend. The tube hill, sponsored by Prevea Health, has five runs each measuring approximately 450 feet with a 70-foot vertical drop.
The Winter Park Association recently installed a Magic Carpet, a standing-only conveyor belt which transports tubers from the bottom of the hill to the top in less than two minutes. To ride alone, tubers must be at least 42 inches tall. Toddlers or infants are not allowed on the tubes, even on a parent or guardian’s lap. To use the hill, tubers must be able to ride the Magic Carpet on their own.
The tubing hill is open on Saturday, Dec. 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 21 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are required.
The Winter Park skiing and snowboarding hill remains closed at this time, but is expected to open soon. The hill has five runs, some with a 160-foot vertical drop. For those new to the sport, a dedicated beginner’s ski and snowboard hill offers a gentler introduction to the slopes. The park utilizes a T-Bar lift system to efficiently transport skiers and snowboarders to the top of the main hill, and a handled rope-tow lift system for the beginner’s ski and snowboard hill. Tickets are required.
The snowshoe and snow bike loop at Ryan Park is groomed and open. The single track trail at Ryan Park has not been groomed; however, snowshoeing is welcome. The Parks committee asks that visitors do not walk on the groomed path with boots to help maintain trail quality. The trail is free to use.
The snowmobiling trails are still closed, but local volunteer snowmobile clubs are working on grooming and trail preparation, including Moonriders Inc., Denmark Norsemen, Luxemburg Spartans and the Algoma Snowriders.
The Dana Farm ice rink has been filled with water but is not yet fully frozen.
The Riverview ATV Park is closed for the season, but the Bruemmer Park Zoo is still open daily, featuring animals like Arctic foxes, a Western bobcat and peacocks; and shelter reservations for 2026 at Ryan Park are available.
The Winter Park has an onsite heated chalet with concession sales, tables, chairs, lockers and indoor restrooms. There is also a rental lodge equipped with skis, snowboards, helmets and snowshoes available in all sizes.
The Recreation Information Hotline provides up-to-date information regarding the state of Winter Park attractions. For more information, call 920-388-7199 or visit www.visitkewauneecounty.com.
