Kewaunee High School student launches Weather Warm-Ups warm clothing drive for youths

KEWAUNEE - A local student is once again focusing his efforts this month on helping others in need in the county.

James Cullen, Jr., a junior at Kewaunee High School, launched his Weather Warm-Ups youth clothing drive this week.

The drive asks residents to donate new or gently used fall and winter jackets, sweaters, sweatshirts and hoodies for boys and girls, youth to young adult sizes. The warm clothes collected will be given to local nonprofit organizations to distribute to young people in need in the county:

the Kewaunee County Back-to-School Program, which provides children with clothing and other items for the school year;

Kewaunee County Violence Intervention Project, where the clothes will be given to youths affected by domestic abuse cases; and the Kewaunee Community Clothing Closet.

This is the third fall Cullen has organized and run Weather Warm-Ups. In its first two years, the drive collected more than 400 items for local youths.

Charitable deeds run in the family, as James' younger brother Cameron, a Kewaunee freshman, also runs a charitable drive for pets, and they and youngest brother Christopher, a seventh-grader, are planning a drive for the Violence Intervention Project.

The drive started Sept. 23 and runs through Oct. 14. Collection boxes (all in Kewaunee) are at:

• Nicolet Bank, 519 Main St.;
• Piggly Wiggly, 931 Marquette Drive;
• Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 521 Juneau St.;
• the Kewaunee School District office, 915 Third St.;
• and the high school, 911 Third St.
