Kewaunee man indicted on federal child pornography charges

KEWAUNEE - A 19-year-old Kewaunee man was indicted by a federal grand jury on child pornography charges Tuesday.

Kyle D. Sanderson is accused of distributing and possessing images of child pornography, including sexually explicit images of children and toddlers, according to a press release from the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin.

Sanderson faces two counts of distribution of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. If convicted of the distribution counts, the press release said he faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and up to 20 years in federal prison.

The case was investigated by the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. It will be prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel R. Humble.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The program was launched in May 2006 by the U.S. Department of Justice. It marshals federal, state and local resources to better find, apprehend and prosecute people who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
