Kewaunee mayor, two county board seats on ballots for Tuesday primary elections

KEWAUNEE COUNTY - Primary elections will be held Tuesday for the Kewaunee mayoral race and two seats on the County Board of Supervisors, along with the statewide primary for a new justice on the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

All of these races have three candidates, and the top two vote-getters will face off for their seats in the general election April 3.

In Kewaunee, Sandy Christman, the city's first-ever woman mayor, is seeking a second term in office against challengers Joe Mills and James Kleiman III.

Residents in District 2, the town of Lincoln and District 10, the town of Franklin, each have three candidates for County Board, all seeking to replace retiring incumbents.

District 2 has Cory Cochart, Joseph Musial and Mark Kusniesz as candidates to become the new supervisor after incumbent Larry Kirchman chose not to run.

District 10 Sup. Ron Paider also is not seeking re-election, and Duane Ducat, John P. Wochos and Thomas Cretney are on the ballot to replace him.

The state Supreme Court race is officially nonpartisan, although each of the three candidates has staked out political ground, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Sauk County Circuit Judge Michael Screnock has received some support from the state Republican Party; Madison attorney Tim Burns has advertised himself as a Democrat; and Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Rebecca Dallet described herself as the only candidate with "Wisconsin values."

Those who are eligible to vote but do not have a Wisconsin driver license or ID card can obtain an ID at no cost for the purpose of voting from the Department of Motor Vehicles.
They should visit the Algoma DMV Service Center, 514 Fourth St.; or the Green Bay DMV Service Center, 2700 Vernon Drive, Ashwaubenon.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Once the polls close, unofficial results will be posted as they become available under the Elections tab on the Kewaunee County website, kewauneeco.org.
