Kewaunee Pierhead Lighthouse

Posted

KEWAUNEE – Tours were offered of the Kewaunee Pierhead Lighthouse on Oct. 4. Although this was the last tour date for this year, the opportunity to learn its history and take in the beautiful views offered from the upper level of the lighthouse will return next year.

The current lighthouse dates back to 1912. The lighthouse once had a crew of 2–4 keepers until, in 1981, it was fully automated and the need for the keepers was removed. The Kewaunee Lighthouse and pier have been added to the Wisconsin and the National Registers of Historic Places.

Exterior restorations started in 2017 and efforts continue with the help of donations. Learn more about this unique treasure in Kewaunee on their website: www.KewauneePierheadLighthouse.org.
