POYNETTE - The Luxemburg-Casco softball team scored a big upset on its way to sweeping its two games in the Poynette Jamboree last weekend.
The Spartans opened the tournament May 5 with an 8-3 win against Waupun, the fourth-ranked team in Division 2 softball in the state.
Dana Deterville threw a complete-game win for the Spartans, allowing two earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. Deterville also went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI.
Luxemburg-Casco broke a 1-1 tie in a five-run fifth inning that was propelled by a two RBI double from Kendall Prevost.
Brianna Prevost added three RBI, including a triple and Cassie Dart went 2-for-5 for the Spartans.
The Spartans followed up by scoring 10 runs in the first inning of a runaway victory against River Valley in the second game of the Jamboree
Dart went 3-for-4 with two runs scored for L-C and Madysen Thayse added two hits and four RBI.
Deterville was the winning pitcher, tossing two scoreless innings. She also had two hits at the plate.

Oconto Falls 9 (5)
OCONTO FALLS - Madysen Thayse went 5-for-5 with six RBI to lead the Spartans in a high-scoring North Eastern Conference win Tuesday.
Mackie Junio hit 3-for-4 with four RBI, including a home run, while Brianna Prevost also had a home run. Prevost finished 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Dana Deterville was 3-for-4 with an RBI and Mariah Tebon hit 2-for-3 with two RBI.
For Oconto Falls, Bailey Magnin and Alex Barribeau each recorded three hits, while Barribeau tallied three RBI.
Corrina Romandine went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Josie Tolzman added two RBI on one hit for the Panthers.
Wrightstown 9, Luxemburg-Casco 0
WRIGHTSTOWN - The Tigers’ MaKayla Neinas threw a two-hit shutout at Luxemburg-Casco in a North Eastern Conference game on Monday.
Neinas allowed a hit in the fifth and seventh inning with three strikeouts. Neinas also went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
The Tigers scored seven runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by Heather Renard’s two-run home run.
Renard finished 2-for-4, while Danielle Nennig and Bridget Froehlke each had two hits.
For Luxemburg-Casco, Brianna Prevost and Madysen Thayes each recorded a hit.
Kewaunee 10, N.E.W. Lutheran 0 (5)
GREEN BAY - Ellie Olsen struck out 10 batters in the Packerland Conference win for Kewaunee on Monday.
Olsen also went 2-for-3 with three RBI and Brooke Geier was 3-for-4 with two RBI for the Storm.
Morgan Meerstein went 2-for-3 for N.E.W.
Oconto 10, Algoma 0 (6)
ALGOMA - Ellen Sohrweide went 3-for-3 with a home run, three runs and two RBI for the Blue Devils in the Packerland Conference matchup Monday.
Jasey Jicha threw a complete game, giving up one hit and striking out eight. Jicha scored twice with a hit and a RBI at the plate as well.
Becky Berth collected two hits drove in a run and scored another for Oconto.
Algoma 5, Sevastopol 4
INSTITUTE - Sevastopol tried to rally from a 5-2 deficit going to the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Wolves hung on to win.
Lexi LeClair belted a two-out, two-run double in the seventh to bring home Karley Schram, who drew a walk, and Teagan LaVigne, who singled, drawing Sevastopol to within one. But a groundout on the next play ended the game.
The game was scoreless through four innings, but Algoma pushed across two runs in the fifth and Sevastopol responded with two in the bottom of the frame on an RBI single by Allison Daubner and an RBI double by LeClair.
The Wolves retook the lead with two runs in the sixth and added one more on Makayla Guilette’s single in the seventh, which proved to be the eventual winning run.
Guilette and Karina Naze had two hits apiece for Algoma, with Mikayla Haack earning the win.
Oconto 3, Kewaunee 0
OCONTO - Becky Berth threw a complete game shutout for Oconto in a May 4 Packerland Conference game.
Berth allowed five hits and struck out seven batters.
Berth and Jasey Jicha each went 1-for-2 with an RBI, while Ellen Sohrweide hit 2-for-3 and an RBI.
For Kewaunee, Elli Olsen was 1-for-3 with a double and recorded seven strikeouts on the mound.
