Lakehaven Hall’s ‘Havoc’ promises Halloween excitement

This year marks the third annual Halloween Extravaganza at Lakehaven Hall in Kewaunee. It has been dubbed “Havoc at the Hall” and offers something for all ages.

It takes place from 6 to 10 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 29 and 30. There is a free show for younger audience members from 6 to 8, and then more spooky excitement begins with a tour of the Haunted House for just a small fee of $5. That tour is recommended for teenagers and older folks; it may be too scary for the younger children.

The event also includes a pumpkin carving/decorating contest. Submit a carved or decorated pumpkin before 5 p.m. Oct. 29 for a chance to win a cash prize.

The Lakehaven crew has been working for weeks, turning the hall into a scary abode for witches, goblins and ghouls. I stopped down yesterday and received a guided tour from Bob and Sue Orr, while the other committee workers were finalizing some of the details for the weekend, like creating huge spider webs.

I toured the Haunted House and let me tell you, it's dark and scary, with narrow hallways, low ceilings, and includes a camper that is home to a serial killer, plus a haunted school bus, complete with live characters. There will be numerous goblins and ghouls to scare the tour goers.

So if you like Halloween and all that goes with it, and a lot of people do, check out Lakehaven Hall, at the foot of Ellis Street, near the pier in Kewaunee. It will not disappoint.

Bring the family to Kewaunee on Saturday or Sunday night and get into the spirit of Halloween. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. And be sure to wear a costume, if you like.

Numerous volunteers and committee members have gone above and beyond to make this a success. Thanks to everyone who helped in any way. It's really a group effort.

Now for a change of subject. The Green Bay Packers beat their arch-rivals, Da Bears, last Thursday night. The team did look better than it did against Dallas, but it is also presently really banged up. It placed several players on injured reserve this week. I hope Thompson and McCarthy can find enough competent players for the team to make a good showing in Atlanta on Sunday.

Hit especially hard were the running back and defensive back positions, with most of the starters out injured for an extended period of time. It will be weeks before many of them get back on the field.

I guess all we can do is hope the young guys can live up to the challenge facing them. It'll be tough, but they will gain valuable experience in the process.
