The Kewaunee County Lakers 17U Legion baseball team walked off its way into the state tournament this weekend with a 4-3 nail-biter Monday over the Hitmen/Hornets 16U Legion team.
Diesel Bosdeck’s RBI single in the bottom of the ninth plated the winning run, sending KC to the state tournament this weekend in Clintonville.
Head coach Jeremy Engum said it’s the first time in the history of Kewaunee County Lakers Legion baseball that a 17U went to state. Steve Doell was assistant coach.
“We had an overall really good season,” Engum said. “We went 14-5.”
That included a second place finish in the Manitowoc Legion 17U tournament in June, with the Lakers losing in 14 innings against the host team in the title game.
Kewaunee County had 13 hits in Monday’s walk-off win, including two each from Bosdeck, Ben Klass and Tatem Klaubauf. Bosdeck had two RBI and Klaubauf stole four bases.
Noah Chervenka earned the win on the mound, surrendering six hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out five and walking two. Cash Delain collected the save.
