Lakeshore CAP seeks volunteers for homeless persons count

KEWAUNEE COUNTY - Lakeshore Community Action Program is looking for volunteers to help conduct the semiannual Point-In-Time Street Count of homeless persons in Door and Kewaunee counties.

Ages 18 and older will look for homeless persons in places that one might suspect they may be staying, conduct a brief survey and provide referrals for assistance. 

Volunteers would work the night of July 25 and early morning of July 26 and can sign up as a team or as individuals who will be placed with a team.  Each team also needs one volunteer driver to take it to various locations.

In addition, Lakeshore CAP is requesting assistance from the community to identify locations where suspected homeless people may be staying.  The program can offer assistance and referrals for shelter.

Businesses that are aware of people who do not have shelter, or suspect that the business or building is being inhabited with homeless people, should contact Lakeshore CAP and inform it of the location.

Also, those who are aware of locations in the community (parked cars, specific parks, and so on) where people are staying who might be homeless should contact the Lakeshore CAP.

The program will be using the provided information to determine the exact time to conduct the Point-in-Time search.  If possible, please notify Lakeshore CAP of these locations before July 20 so it can organize its coalition to find these vulnerable people in the community. 

Based in Manitowoc, the Lakeshore CAP mission is "to promote economic and personal self-sufficiency and well-being of low to moderate income persons and families through service programs, advocacy, community education and resource development in Door, Kewaunee, Manitowoc and Sheboygan counties and to enable and empower persons, parents and families through voluntary prevention, education and support programs. Emphasis is placed on practices that promote strong service coordination, collaboration and comprehensive case management."
