Legion Park WWI cannon restored

Posted

ALGOMA – Members of American Legion Post 236 in Algoma recently gathered with City of Algoma workers, Mayor Steve Lautenbach and Shawn Olson of Olson Fabrication, Inc. at the site of the restored WWI cannon at Legion Park just west of the south pier. The cannon was set temporarily until a concrete pad could be poured. Commander Mike Froelich thanked the city crew for loading and unloading the cannon, Olson Fabrication for metal restoration and painting and everyone who donated to make this project possible. The restored cannon wheel was created by Amish craftsmen.

A new project is underway, with the Legion raising funds for a memorial sculpture. Learn about the plan by calling financial officer CJ Schmidt at 920-217-0638. Donations can be mailed to American Legion Post 236, PO Box 86, Algoma, WI 54201.
