LUXEMBURG-CASCO – Marcis Doell, an incoming junior at Luxemburg-Casco High School, has been a member of the school’s Future Business Leaders of America club since his freshman year.
Doell qualified to compete in the Introduction to Parliamentary Procedures test at the National Leadership Conference, an annual event hosted by FBLA in Anaheim, Calif in late June/early July. To make it to the national level, he first had to compete at Regionals, where students have to finish in the top three in their discipline to qualify for State. After Regionals, students compete at a state level, where they must place in the top four, and Doell succeeded again to earn a spot at this year’s national conference.
Doell chose to compete in the Parliamentary Procedures test this year because of its focus on business meetings and their structure.
“It shows how business is talked about in a civil, organized manner,” he said.
Parliamentary Procedures also tests students on their knowledge of the technical nature of meetings, like how motions are passed and the structure of a board. In preparation for the competitions, FBLA members work with their school advisors, who supply test prep materials.
The 2025 conference brought together more than 14,000 middle school, high school and collegiate students from across the nation to compete in a wide range of business and career-focused competitive events, participate in leadership workshops and network with peers and industry professionals. The 2025 NLC, themed “Dare to Dream, Dare to Lead,” provided a platform for FBLA members to showcase their skills in areas such as accounting, business ethics, digital video production and impromptu speaking. Students competed in over 70 events, earning recognition for their academic excellence, innovative thinking and leadership potential.
Doell became interested in business leadership early in his life thanks to his father Steve Doell, a business education teacher and FBLA advisor at Wrightstown High School. His older brother Reagan Doell was also a member of the LCHS FBLA, and was a three-time club president and three-time national qualifier. Reagan graduated from LCHS in May of this year.
Marcis Doell joined the LCHS FBLA club his freshman year, and took several business classes that further piqued his interest in the field.
Doell dove into FBLA without hesitation, taking on a significant role his very first year.
“My freshman year, I knew I wanted to be heavily involved in the club, so I ran for an officer position. I enjoyed being an officer, so next year, I ran again,” he said.
As an officer, Doell took on responsibilities like helping to organize and conduct fundraisers for the club, which help send students to competitions that require travel
For his junior year, Doell has been voted president of the FBLA, meaning his role in the club will become even larger in the 2025-26 school year.
“I would like to improve a lot of things about the club, like getting more members active in competitions, so that hopefully we can send more people on to State and Nationals in the future,” Doell said.
Doell is not only a member of L-C’s FBLA, but also participates in three school sports: Basketball, cross county and baseball. He said balancing school, sports and the club has become second nature, although there are times he has to give up study hall time to help organize club events.
Doell is a left fielder in the Kewaunee County Legion 17U baseball team, which qualified for State on Monday for the first time in the team’s history. Read more about the game and upcoming tournament on page 8.
Doell emphasized the value of FBLA for networking, career exploration and competition, and encouraged others to join regardless of their interest in business.
“[The club] is just a great way to meet new people. It can maybe show a glimpse at a future career that you might want — you might even be able to find it through a competition,” Doell said.
