Ludlow: Appreciate your father while you still have him around

Posted

Father's Day is June 17, so those of you who still have dad around, be sure to show him your love and appreciation.

I lost my dad many years ago, but I still miss him. It was Dad and I for a lot of years, because my mom passed years earlier. I really got to know him, his principles and his high integrity. I hope some of that rubbed off, at least a little.

All of you who still have Dad in your lives, take advantage of it and enjoy him while you have him. Because one day, he won't be here anymore.

OK, that's enough of that for now. I'll get out from behind the pulpit.

► Summer is fast approaching. The kids are out of school for the summer. So we'd better enjoy and appreciate the warmer weather, because winters in Wisconsin are long and cold.

And with summer comes the golf season, my favorite time of the year.

My game isn't what it once was, but at least I can still get out there and swing the club. But that little ball just doesn't want to go as far as it used to. My problem is that I'm standing to close to the ball after I hit it. Oh well. I'm just happy I'm able to play. We never know what's in store for  the future.

► Is anyone else out there getting pestered by random political calls? Thank goodness for caller ID. The number and caller come up on the TV screen and I just don't answer.

But they keep calling. Wouldn't you think that eventually they would quit trying? Maybe it'll tone down after next week's election. I sure hope so.

And speaking of the telephone, I am also bombarded with telemarketing calls and I don't answer those, either.

So my phone rings a lot, but I'm not on it unless I know the person calling.

► Here's some goodies I found on a short stories link on the internet:

A linguistics professor was lecturing his class one day.

“In English”, he said, “A double negative forms a positive. In some languages, though, such as Russian, a double negative is still a negative. However, there is no language wherein a double positive can form a negative.”

A loud voice from the back of the room piped up, “Yeah, right.”

Then there's this: Two lawyers arrived at the pub and ordered a couple of drinks. They then take sandwiches from their briefcases and began to eat.

Seeing this, the angry bartender approaches them and said, “Excuse me, but you cannot eat your own sandwiches in here!”

The two looked at each other, shrugged and exchanged sandwiches

And with that bit of corn, I wish everyone a great week ahead.
