Ludlow: Bring it on, 2018, we're ready

Posted

Christmas has come and gone. Mine was fairly quiet. I spent the day with the Brown family. Dan and Kathy kindly invited me over for Christmas dinner which was delicious by the way and much appreciated. Otherwise, my Christmas would have been super quiet.

And now it's on to New Year's Eve. And that will be a quiet one in my life as well. There just seems to be a time in life when one tends to slow up and I do believe I'm at that point. The urge to party hearty just isn't there any longer. Been there, done that.

Boy, Old Man Winter really reared his ugly head this week, as temperatures plummeted below zero. I know this is Wisconsin and it is winter. But I don't have to like it. So just keep adding layers of clothing and get through it. It will likely get worse before it gets better.

The Wisconsin Badgers' football team plays the University of Miami Saturday night in the Orange Bowl. According to the Internet, the game starts at 7 p.m. Saturday night. So go Bucky, beat Miami.

The Packers sure had a disappointing season and missed the playoffs for the first time in nine years. So it won't be nearly as enjoyable watching playoff games this year. I do think there needs to be some changes made over the offseason. For one thing, the Pack's defense needs to improve. They couldn't stop anyone this year.

I'm always complaining about forgetting things. Well, I found this cute story on the Internet this morning. Here it is.

An elderly couple in their 90s were having problems remembering things, so they went to see their doctor. He told them that as we age, we can have problems remembering things, so maybe they should start writing things down.

Later, they were sitting at home and the husband gets up out of his chair to go into the kitchen.

His wife asked him, “Can you bring me a dish of ice cream?” And he replied, “Sure.”

She said, “I want strawberries on it with whipped cream on the top. Can you remember that or should I write it down?”

“I can remember,” he replied grumpily. “You want ice cream with strawberries and whipped cream on top.”

“Are you sure you will remember that?” she asked and he repeated it again, getting angrier.

He's gone for a while and comes back with a plate of bacon and eggs and hands it to her. She looked up and asked, “Where's my toast?”

And with that, I will close. Have a great week, stay safe,  and have a very happy and healthy New Year. Bring on 2018, we're ready.
