Ludlow: Christmas for all ages at Lake Haven Hall

I had a sneak peek at Lake Haven Hall this week as Bob and Sue Orr were putting the finishing touches on the hall's annual event, “Winter in the Village.” Many local residents have provided their private collections including ceramic Christmas villages, a collection of Christmas Barbie Dolls, toy trains, etc.

Plus there will be Christmas movies and entertainment for all ages.

The entertainment Friday features a violin and piano concert at 7 p.m. At 1 p.m. Saturday, you can make an ornament. At 11 a.m. Sunday, the Kewaunee high School choir performs, followed at 1 p.m. by Kali's School of Dance.

And don't forget to bring the little ones who will want to enter their names for a chance to win a Christmas Barbie or Leonardo, the Ninja Turtle.

This event has no admission, and there will be free cider, hot chocolate and cookies. So come down to Lake haven Hall this weekend and get into the Christmas Spirit.

Christmas tree surprise

And speaking of Christmas, here is an unusual Christmas tree story. Cleva and Leni Pelnar have two grandsons, Anthony and Joey Pelnar, living in Evans Georgia, a suburb of Augusta. Anthony is in his 20s and lives with his girlfriend, Katie.  Joey is a senior in high school. The trio went out and purchased a Christmas tree and brought it home. They set it up, put the lights on, decorated it and took pictures of the three of them by the tree. Everything was fine and dandy.

Then they noticed Katie's cat batting something around. Well, it was a 3-foot long snake that had slithered out of that Christmas tree! Can you imagine, a snake in a Christmas tree? I would say that is one of the benefits of an artificial tree. No snakes.

I guess Anthony jumped into action, grabbed the snake and threw it out the door before it knew what hit it. Cleva and I were laughing about the incident and decided it was also one of the benefits of living up north. We don't have snakes in our Christmas trees. We might have to put up with snow and cold at this time of the year, but we can deal with that.

And how about those Green Bay Packers! The players finally got their heads on straight and played a game like they are capable of. It didn't even look like the same team last Sunday. I couldn't believe how bad the Seahawks looked. Wilson's passes were bouncing off their hands, chests and helmets into the hands of a waiting Packers' player. It was actually fun to watch for a change. If that same team shows up for the last three games, I think they will win out. That's a big if, though. Only time will tell.
