Ludlow: It has been one strange winter

Is anyone else as sick of all this white stuff as I am? Most of us are ready for spring weather, and as this is written, it's snowing like crazy with a forecast of 4 to 6 inches of it. I'm looking forward to warm breezes, sunshine, green grass and golf.

I know it's early March and this is Northeast Wisconsin. Traditionally, we probably won't be able to golf until at least mid-May, and that's only if we're lucky. So cool the jets and be patient. The weather experts are forecasting temperatures in the 50s for Sunday. Warmer temps should melt some of this snow, and that would be a good thing.

As everyone knows, my skills in the kitchen are quite limited. I don't like to cook, and I don't do much of it. Only if I get hungry for something. So consequently, many of my meals are liquid, as in “Atkins high protein shakes” or “Slimfast.” That way I'm at least getting some of the necessary daily protein. Also, hamburgers and small pizzas are easy and some of my favorites. And they don't generate a lot of dishes to wash.

I washed two days of dirty dishes the other day that consisted of three glasses, one small fry pan, one knife and one spoon. Not bad for two days of eating, wouldn't you say? Doing my dishes doesn't take long and that's a good thing.

I'm looking forward to the NCAA basketball tournament games, both the men's and women's teams. Watching college basketball and especially tournament play is one of my favorite things. I believe it all gets started in a week or so.

Did you hear this one about the preacher's wife? A couple were going on a vacation together, but the wife had an emergency at work. So they agreed the husband would go as planned and his wife would meet him at the hotel the next day. When the husband got to his hotel and had checked in, he thought he should send his wife a quick email letting her know he arrived OK. As he typed in her email address, he made a typo and his email was sent to an elderly preacher’s wife instead. It just so happened that her husband had sadly died just the day before. When the grieving old preacher’s wife checked her emails, she read the one from the erring husband, let out an awful, loud, piercing scream, and fainted on the floor. At the sound of her falling, her family rushed into the room. They tended to her and then looked at her computer and saw this email on her screen: “Dearest wife, Just checked into my room. Everything is prepared for your arrival tomorrow. P. S. It sure is hot down here.”
