Ludlow: It really is a small world

Posted

Six of us from the golf league went over to Wander Springs Golf Course Monday to play golf. The course is located in Wayside, about 45 minutes south and west of Kewaunee.

While standing in the clubhouse, prior to our tee time, I heard the golf pro mention the name of someone I knew from Sturgeon Bay that I hadn't seen for probably 15 to 20 years. I wondered if it was the gal I knew and golfed with several times. Then two ladies came in prior to teeing off and I heard that name again. Then one of the women turned around, looked at me and said, “Barb Ludlow.”

Now I hadn't seen her for so long, I didn't recognize her at first, but sure enough, it was this friend of mine from Door County. We talked a little and they had to start their round. Then we played and after finishing, I went back inside to see if she was still there. She was.

We talked while they ate lunch and caught up with what's been happening in our lives for the last several years. It was great to see her again and I hope to keep in touch in the future. This gal was a great golfer, skier and bowler. I remember one time we picked her up and headed to Peninsula Park to cross-country ski. Lou and I were novices at it. But Mary was an accomplished skier. One hill in particular, she went skiing up the hill like it was no effort at all. Lou and I were laboring up and about halfway, I looked up and there was Mary standing at the top, patiently waiting for us with a big grin on her face. It was quite comical.

Last week, I talked about having my second cataract surgery. It's now a week later.  Right after the surgery, my vision was still kind of blurry, but as the effects of the surgery wore off, it became clearer and clearer. In fact, by Thursday morning, I couldn't believe the difference. I'd be sitting watching TV and kept trying to push up my glasses that I didn't have on.

But to tell you the truth, I felt undressed without them. So Thursday, when we went back, I had the other lens removed and am currently wearing them with no lenses. I go to the eye doctor tomorrow and in a month, I will get glasses that I will likely need for reading.

But currently, my vision is clearer than it's been for a long, long time. We were standing on the first tee at Alaska, and I realized that when you look to the east, you can see Lake Michigan from there. I never noticed that before. And since then, I've been seeing a lot of things much clearer than previously.

To anyone who needs cataract surgery, do it. The results are really wonderful.
