It may not look like it outside, but Christmas is fast approaching and once again, Lakehaven will feature “Winter in the Village” beginning Sunday, Dec. 13, through Saturday, Dec. 19. It runs from 6 to 9 p.m. each evening.
According to organizers, Lakehaven Hall is all dressed up for the holidays and will include classic holiday music, village and Santa Displays, the Polar Express model train, Christmas caroling Wednesday from 7pm to 7:30 pm, and Christmas movies nightly.
Bring the whole family. There is something for everyone at Lakehaven in downtown Kewaunee next to Lake Michigan on Ellis Street. The admission is free and you can also enjoy free cookies, cider and hot chocolate.
And it sounds like the mild weather is going to continue, at least in the immediate future. So we shouldn't have to worry about snowy, slippery roads, at least not for a while. I heard this morning that normally we would already have about a half-foot of snow on the ground by now. But not this year. The grass is still fairly green. Now, I'm not complaining. Whether it's global warming, climate change or just a fluke, I really don't care. I don't have to pay to shovel my driveway and I'm loving it.
I don't get into winter sports anymore, other than watching them on TV. So an unusually mild winter sounds wonderful to me.
In a change of subject, don't forget to get your tickets for the 2016 "Hooray for Hollywood" production. They go on sale at Lakeshore Lighthouse, formerly Center Court in Kewaunee, at 8 a.m. this Saturday. The show is planned for Friday, Saturday and Sunday Feb. 19, 20 and 21. Friday and Saturday shows are at 7 p.m., and Sunday begins at noon.
Tickets are $18 each and proceeds go towards various local community organizations. Over the years, the Kewaunee Young People's Theater has donated thousands of dollars to local charities. And besides that, it's always a great show.
Here's some more funnies:
At my age, “getting lucky” means walking into a room and remembering what I went in there for.
And then there's this one, a favorite of mine. Chocolate comes from cocoa, which is a tree. That makes it a plant which means – chocolate is salad.
And then there's this one. Even duct tape can't fix stupid ... but it can muffle the sound. Another favorite of mine: Why do I have to press "1" for English when you're just going to transfer me to someone I can't understand anyway?
Have a good week, everyone.
