It's time for the Kewaunee County Fair, running from Thursday through Sunday. So if you haven't been there before you read this, be sure to pack up the family and head to the fairgrounds in Luxemburg.
It's the 101st annual event. Congrats to Kewaunee County for continuing the tradition. It takes a lot of work and volunteers to continue that tradition for that long. Thanks to everyone who had a part in planning and making it happen.
By the time this is in print for the weekend newspaper, the fair should be in full swing and hopefully drawing huge crowds to the village of Luxemburg. I'm sure the event affects everyone in that small community, especially the local businesses. Anything that generates people coming to your community is a boost for the local economy.
I remember when we had our clothing business in Kewaunee and the car ferry was making its daily runs across the lake, we always had people stopping in who were waiting for the ferry.
► Speaking of events, Alumni Fest is Saturday at Lakehaven Hall in downtown Kewaunee. It is for high school graduates and their friends and runs from noon until 10 p.m.
The event also includes a food drive for the Lakeshore Food Pantry. Bring a contribution for the pantry and receive one raffle ticket for each item given; tickets also will be sold for $1.
Live entertainment begins with the Greatest Hits Polka Band from noon to 3 p.m., followed by a variety of classic hits from the Del Rays from 3 to 6 and rock music by Adam Trask from 7 to 10.
There will also be food, beer and wine coolers sponsored by the Kewaunee Fire Department Auxiliary. New to the event this year is a Milk Bottle Tournament.
To view some photos of previous events, go to Facebook and search for "Kewaunee High School Alumni." There are several pictures of previous events that showcase the huge crowds it generates.
I know that I really enjoyed reconnecting with everyone at previous Alumni Fests, many of whom I hadn't seen in years.
So between the fair and Alumni Fest, it's going to be a wildly busy weekend. Rest up, everyone, and be ready to take in all the happenings. I will give it my best shot, but I'm old, you know.
► Here's a cute observation I found on the internet.
"People in Japan consume less fat than Americans and have less heart disease.
"People in Mexico consume quite a bit of fat and have less heart disease than Americans.
"People in France drink a lot of red wine and have less heart disease than Americans.
"People in China drink almost no red wine and have less heart disease than Americans.
"Therefore, it doesn’t matter what you eat or drink. What kills you is speaking English."
Have a great week, everyone.
