Ludlow: Packers camp shows how quickly summer is going

Kewaunee County Star-News columnist Barb Ludlow.

Where did it go? Summer, that is.

Saw on television that the Green Bay Packers open their training camp at the end of this week. And that means it's officially time to start thinking about football. I would also assume that the local schools will start practicing fall sports pretty soon as well.

But, at least we should be able to enjoy a couple of more months of warm weather before it gets cold.

► I have to talk about an event in Kewaunee last Saturday. I know the county fair was happening last weekend in Luxemburg, but I wasn't able to go this year.

But I did attend Alumni Fest in Kewaunee and from what I saw, a good time was had by all. It's a chance to reconnect with people you haven't seen for a long, long time.

It was great to see everyone again, some of whom I hadn't seen for many years. Thank you to whoever came up with the idea. Because when you were in school, you likely connected with many at the same time, not necessarily just classmates. I went down in the afternoon for a couple of hours, went home for a bit and went back down for a couple more hours.

Thank you to all the organizers for all the hard work put in to make it happen. I hope they can do it again next year.

The only negative connected to the event was sore feet. Mine were both barking by the time I got home that night and I was all talked out. But the feet were fine the next day, and the memories made it well worth it.

► Have you ever had a smoke alarm go haywire? Mine did last night; it started chirping off and on. It would make some racket, be quiet for about 20 minutes and start back up again. So, just about the time I was starting to doze off, it started chirping again. My landlady picked it up this afternoon to replace it. I'm looking forward  to sleeping uninterrupted tonight. I sure hope that's the case.

► Here's some humor about getting older that I found on the internet:

As you get older, your secrets are safe with your friends. They can't remember them, either.

I would be unstoppable — if I could only get started.

Eventually you reach a point when you stop lying about your age and start bragging about it.

I live in my own little world. But it's OK — they know me here.

Forget health food. I'm at the age where I need all the preservatives I can get.

And, finally, you can't stay young forever, but you can be immature for your entire life.

With that, have a great week, everyone.
