Ludlow: Packers lay gigantic egg in Minnesota

I'm sure Vikings' fans all over Minnesota are gloating over their team's victory last Sunday in their brand new stadium. That was one of the most uninspired performances that I've seen the Packers play and I've watched a lot of games.

What's up with Aaron Rodgers anyway? He was off-target much of the day, holding the ball too long, plus he threw an interception and also fumbled the ball away, not just once, but three times. This two-time MVP is definitely not playing like it.

Last year it was blamed on the fact that Jordy Nelson was out with a torn ACL. Well here's a news flash! Jordy's back and has caught a touchdown pass in each of his first two games.

Any time our so-called high-powered offense can only score two touchdowns, there is something fishy happening. The defense only allowed 17 points and that should be an opportunity for a win, but the offense just couldn't do it.

So what is it anyway? Is it the receivers, the quarterback, the offensive line, the backs or a combination of all of the above. Maybe they're just out of sync. We'll soon find out. All I know is that Sunday's game was painful to watch. Enough said.

And a shout-out with congratulations to Matt Pahnke, a former Kewaunee High School track standout, for a good finish in a recent Iron Man competition, I believe in Madison. Matt finished 42nd out of 2,880 participants in the contest that included running a marathon, biking over 100 miles and swimming for two or three miles.

Matt finished the competition in 10 hours and 12 minutes. It would likely take me a couple of weeks to do all of that, and I'd probably have to eat and sleep in between events and then whether I could finish at all would be questionable. I don't even walk around the golf course.

Of course, there is quite an age difference there, but it's always nice to hear that someone with Kewaunee ties did something good. So nice job, Matt!

And speaking of my advancing age, I read a post on Facebook this morning that is so true. It went like this: “I thought growing old would take longer.”  Truer words were never spoken.

And then there was this one, posted by a friend. “The squirrels are beginning to gather nuts for the winter, and I've noticed that some of my friends have disappeared! Are you all OK?”

I did get quite a kick out of that one.

And as this is written, forecasters are predicting rain for tomorrow and a group of us are planning a golf outing. I hope it holds off so we can get our 18 in.
