Ludlow: Pushin' the Cushion was a hoot

Posted

I didn't know what to expect when I agreed to take part in the Kewaunee Rescue's Jan. 21, “Pushin' the Cushion” fundraiser, but I figured it would be a good time. And I was not disappointed. My two pushers were Kristi Saxby and Tammy Last. I was a little leery about being pushed. What if they tipped me over, I wondered.

Well the girls came prepared and wrapped me up in bubble wrap. Then I had to be careful not to get too close to the fire, afraid my insulation would melt.

And as it turned out, we didn't even come close to tipping over. The course was marked with orange cones. They pushed me down to the end where a table was set up. The team members each had to drink a shot of “apple pie”, turn the chair around and race back to the starting point. In total, there were 10 teams that raced two at a time. We raced twice and didn't win either one, but certainly had a lot of laughs.

They served food and refreshments, and I'm sure most everyone ate and drank. I heard that they did make a profit, and it is just the beginning of the annual event. And chances are, next year the weather will probably be more like winter. Jan. 21 was pretty much like a spring day with temperatures hovering around 40 degrees and the track was kind of slushy. But all in all, the event was a lot of fun and will only get bigger and better.

Well, the Packers certainly laid an egg in Atlanta two weeks ago. It was definitely a hard to watch game. The whole team seemed out of sync, and Atlanta played a great game. But the Packers just suffered too many injuries to overcome. And even without them, they would have had a tough time with Atlanta. Better luck next year.

Looking forward to watching the Super Bowl between the Falcons and the Patriots. I would guess the Falcons will be competitive, but when it's all said and done, I think the Patriots will win it all. They are that good. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the Falcons. The Patriots have won enough recently.

I have a couple of short poems to share with you that I thought were cute.

“I'm a little mixed up and before the refrigerator so often, my poor mind is filled with doubt. Have I just put food away, or have I come to take some out?”  (And who hasn't done that?)

And then there's this one. "There I stood beside the mailbox, with a face so very red. Instead of mailing you my letter, I had opened it instead.”
