Ludlow: Still waiting for some warm weather

Is warmer air ever going to get to the lakeshore? I know, it's only April but I guess I'm just impatient.

Not much going on lately. I went to the Tuesday Morning Glories Bowling League's banquet this week. It was at Kunkels in Kewaunee, and we enjoyed a great chicken dinner. Our Thursday night league had a roll-off this week, and the banquet is next week at Slovan.

Then a couple of weeks after that, the golf season will get underway, my favorite activity. I bowl in winter for something to do. But when the weather warms up, I play golf, because it's outside and I love the sport.

My parents took me golfing when I was a kid, probably around 11 or 12. That got me started and I've been doing it ever since. My dad had a cousin in Conway, S.C., who owned a house on the ocean in Myrtle Beach. A group of us went there every April, around this time, for many years. It was always a good time with days spent on the golf course and the rest of the time at the beach. It was a week of relaxation and most of the time, the weather was perfect.

But all good things must come to an end and we all get older. With age, comes a lot of other complications. Getting old definitely isn't for sissies. My dad always used to say that and now I know exactly what he meant and quote him often.

Next week is the NFL Draft. It will be interesting to see who the Packers choose. Their needs are many, especially at defensive back. They need someone who can defend against the pass, something they were definitely lacking last season.

According to what I found on the internet, the draft is from 7 p.m. April 27 to April 29. I'm curious to know which college stars will be going where. I hope the Packers draft wisely.

I found this cute story on the Web recently and thought I would share it. And I apologize to all blondes. They do tend to be picked on a lot.

A blonde woman was taking a walk in the countryside one day. She was in a field when she noticed something that intrigued her.
"Why doesn't this cow have any horns?" she asked the local farmer who just happened to appear at that time. "Well," said the farmer, "cows can do damage with their horns, so we usually keep them trimmed down with a hacksaw. You can also treat young calves so their horns never grow. And some breeds don't have any horns at all." He then continued, "But this cow doesn't have any horns because it's a horse."
