Ludlow: This winter is easier to take than most

If the recent warmer temperatures are because of global warming, I'm all for it. With temps predicted in the 50s for the weekend, this winter has been one of the milder ones in my recent memory. The current weather is more typical of April than February. But, we'll take it as long as it lasts, because it can change in the blink of an eye. For me, it can stay like this until spring and then warm up. I am about ready to trade my bowling ball for golf clubs anyway. But realistically, that is a few months off yet. After all, it's still February, but it's fun to dream anyway.

I'm certainly looking forward to Hooray for Hollywood this weekend. We need some laughs at this time of the year when we're tired of winter, looking toward spring and summer, but at the same time, we know that it's a few months off. I'm going Sunday afternoon and looking forward to a couple of hours of laughter. It's always a hoot. It's fun to speculate who and what they will poke fun at this year. I imagine the election will be one topic and who knows what else is in their sights. All I know is I'm anticipating another good time.

I was looking for jokes on the internet recently and came upon this one about a state trooper.

“My friend’s husband, Ray, is a state trooper and enjoys sharing the excuses people use when stopped for speeding. One day, however, the tables were turned. Ray maintains an aquarium of exotic fish, and a prized specimen had threatened to turn belly up. The off-duty officer called a pet store, and they advised him to immediately purchase a special additive that would correct the water’s pH.

Ray and his wife jumped into the car and rushed to the store. A state trooper signaled them to pull over. “Go ahead,” Ray’s wife said. “Tell him you’ve got a sick fish!”

And then there's this one about a cat. “I worked at a boarding kennel where people leave their dogs and cats while on vacation. One morning I had taken a cat out of his cage, and after playing with him and replenishing his food and water, I put him back in. A few minutes later, I was surprised to see the feline at my feet, since the cage doors lock automatically when they’re shut. I couldn’t figure out how the cat escaped, until I bent down to pick him up and spied his nametag: “Houdini.” (Now that makes a lot of sense.)
