Ludlow: Time to invest in a GPS for the car

Posted

It all started last Friday night. While sitting at the computer, the right lens in my glasses popped out and landed on my desk.

Since I had cataract surgery last year, I mainly need my glasses for reading, but I've been wearing them since age 3 and feel naked without them on my face. So getting that lens fixed was a big priority.

I was supposed to be in Algoma at 11 a.m. Saturday for lunch with people I used to work with. I headed to Green Bay about 9. Went to Shopko and they fixed my glasses in no time. I left Shopko a little after 10, thinking I'd make it to Algoma by 11. Was that ever wrong!

I don't usually go from Green Bay to Algoma and should have gone back to Kewaunee and then to Algoma. But I figured all I had to do was find Wisconsin 54 and that would get me there. I thought I knew where I was going.

WRONG!

Before I knew it, I was totally lost. I did get on the freeway but immediately found out I was headed for Shawano, so I got off and proceeded to get totally messed up on the outskirts of Green Bay's West Side. I had absolutely no idea of where I was.

I finally found Wisconsin 29 East and figured that would eventually get to me the lakeshore. So I took it.

In the process of being lost, I went over two or three different bridges in Green Bay, including Tower Drive. I passed several different buildings more than once, and I had no idea that Green Bay had so many Kwik Trip stores.

After about an hour of frogging around, not knowing where I was going, I finally found, or should I say stumbled upon, Wisconsin 54, with a sign that said to Luxemburg and Algoma. By now, it's after 11 and I'm already late. I took it anyway thinking I'd be late, but at least I'd make it.

I arrived at Ape's in Algoma at a quarter to 12, only 45 minutes late and totally frustrated. But it was a nice lunch and good to see everyone again.

I have a cute story to share with my readers. And I won't mention names, to protect the innocent.

A couple of guys I know frequent the Kewaunee Health & Fitness Center and enjoy the great pool it has. These two guys were in the pool and decided to serenade one of Kewaunee's female senior citizens, and the two of them burst into song.

When they finished, she looked at them and said, “Gee, you should be on the radio.” They said, “Oh?”

And she replied, “Yes, then I could turn it off.”

The moral to the story: Don't mess with us senior ladies.
