Ludlow: What's with destroying property when you're celebrating?

Posted

Well, the Philadelphia Eagles pulled it off by beating the New England Patriots to win the NFL's 2018 Super Bowl. And then, their fans were so elated they started fires and tipped over vehicles.

I don't understand that reaction to winning. Since when does a celebration include destroying other people's property? In my mind, that does not compute at all.  I think a lot of those people are missing some brain cells. They just don't have the common sense like most people do. Go figure.

And I guess it's not just in the eastern states. I heard that in the Towns of Franklin and Montpelier in Kewaunee County, vandals are destroying some rural mailboxes. So be on the lookout. Apparently the vandals are in a pickup truck with a loud muffler. Keep an eye on mailboxes everyone.

¶ With the Super Bowl over and done with, there's nothing to look forward to until the weather improves and I can start thinking about golf. Maybe I need to expand my horizons some. You think? I never got into playing cards and I don't read much, so a lot of my winter is spent watching TV. Not too exciting.

I've barely been out of the house for days. The cold weather is really getting to me. The older I get, the colder I get. But it is winter in Wisconsin. So just add another layer of clothing and deal with it.

At least we haven't had much snow so far this winter. And I'm sure I will pay for that remark, since there are several weeks of the season remaining. And this area is known for having spring storms and or blizzards. We really aren't safe until May or even June.

¶ I found this cute story on the Internet:

“You name it, we’ll make it!” was the big sign outside the new restaurant. “There is no food we can’t make for you!”

“Excuse me, sir,” said a man with a heavy Russian accent to the waiter, “I would like, please, a garden salad with Russian dressing.”

“Russian dressing!" screamed the head cook. "I've never heard of Russian dressing! What are we going to give this guy?"

“Don’t worry,” said the owner to the cook. “I’ll take care of everything. You just make the salad.”

And that’s how it happened that, two minutes, later the waiter walked out with a big garden salad and a picture of a Russian man putting on his pants.

¶ I found a saying on Facebook recently that pretty much describes the way I feel lately. It goes like this: “The older I get, the less I try to tiptoe around people's feelings. You either like me or you don't. It's as simple as that.”

Have a great week, everyone.
