It's 2017 everyone! How long will it take before you can write that without thinking? It always takes me a few months and mistakes. I recently got used to 2016, and now it changes. Time flies, and it doesn't matter if you are having fun or not. It wasn't that long ago we were looking forward to the turn of the century. That was 17 years ago!
When you are a kid, time takes a long time to pass. It seemed we were always looking forward to something that took forever to get there. The older we get, the faster it goes. The young will learn that soon enough and folks in my age bracket know exactly what I'm talking about.
We don't bowl in between the holidays, so Thursday night, a couple of teams got together at Carol Sinkula's for some food, refreshments and fun and games. It was a lot of fun with tons of good snacks and a lot of foolish talk. Plus we played some crazy card games. A good time was had by all.
Now the holidays are over. Mine were quiet, especially New Year's Eve. I was home in my recliner. I did manage to stay up long enough to watch the ball drop in New York and stayed up another hour to watch it drop locally before going to bed.
Sunday and Monday were spent watching a lot of football — college games, the Packers on Sunday night, and the Badgers on Monday, plus the Rose Bowl game. The Packers and the Badgers won their games. The Pack plays the Giants at Lambeau Field on Sunday. So far they are predicting temperatures in the teens at game time. I will watch it on TV.
Now that all the hoopla is over, we have to get through the next few months before the weather improves and I can get the golf clubs out of mothballs. That will take a few months.
The weather over the holidays was nice in the 30s. It sure came crashing down this week. But this is Wisconsin, and we all know what winter is like here.
I received an email the other day that listed bloopers that supposedly actually appeared in church bulletins. Some of those were pretty cute.
One stated, “The Fasting and Prayer Conference includes meals.”
Another is: “Ladies, don't forget the upcoming rummage sale. It's a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Bring your husbands.”
And then there's this one: “Next Thursday there will be tryouts for the choir. They need all the help they can get.”
And last but not least, “The Low Self Esteem Support Group will meet Thursday at 7 pm. Please use the back door.”
Have a great week everyone.
