KEWAUNEE COUNTY – Luxemburg-Casco High School’s Logan Guilette was been named to the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) state Agriculture Youth Council.

The youth council provides high school students with an opportunity to engage with state government and increase awareness of DATCP’s interactions with Wisconsin’s agriculture industry.

The council is made up of 15 Wisconsin high school seniors, with at least one member from each of the nine council districts.

The remaining seats are filled with at-large members.

Students serve one-year terms and are expected to attend eight monthly 90-minute virtual sessions and one final event involving the DATCP board.

Members must prepare at least one question prior to each session.

Those serving on the council with Guilette include: Chance Austin, Milton; Josie Bailey, Tomah; Elizabeth Colburn, Viroqua; Lilah Feyen , East Troy; Tyson Gehrke, Stitzer; Abel Kooima, Waupun; Emi McCarville, Mineral Point; Samuel Mell, Waunakee; Sonya Merrit, Arpin; Layten Sobieski, Berlin; Emily Sydow, Columbus; Allis Teska, Auburndale; and Samuel Tuttle, Drummond.

“Congratulations to the Wisconsin Agriculture Youth Council members,” said DATCP Secretary Randy Romanski. “I appreciate their willingness to be part of the council, and I look forward to engaging with these students over the coming year to gain their insights about Wisconsin agriculture.”

“Council members were evaluated based on their submitted materials, including an application, essay, video, and letter of recommendation. These members will attend virtual sessions each month of the school year to listen to presentations and participate in dialogue related to a variety of topics,” a DATCP release stated.
