Luxemburg firefighters put out shed fire

The Luxemburg Fire Department was dispatched at 12:09 p.m. Tuesday to N6249 Hillview Road in the town of Luxemburg for a report of fire in a shed filled with hay.

When arriving on scene, firefighters found a metal pole building, used to store hay, equipment, and a workshop, approximately 120 by 50 feet. heavily involved in fire.  Firefighters knocked down the bulk of the fire with hand lines and an aerial master stream.  A backhoe was used to gain full access to hot spots under a collapsed metal roof, and to remove hay from the structure.

Firefighters were able to save adjacent structures, but the structure and contents were destroyed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but is not considered suspicious. There were no animals housed in the structure.

Fill sites were setup using the Luxemburg Village municipal system, and drawing from a pond in the village.  Approximately 80 truckloads of water were used.

Mutual aid fire departments assisting were New Franken, Casco, Kewaunee, Denmark, Algoma, and Carlton.  Tisch Mills and Brussels Union Gardner departments stood by at Luxemburg and Casco stations in case of a second alarm.  Luxemburg Rescue provided rehab for firefighters.  There were no injuries.

Firefighters were on scene for more than five hours.
