ALGOMA – A 26-year-old man was found dead in the Ahnapee River on Thursday afternoon in what police said appears to be an accidental drowning.
The Algoma Police Department received a call in the afternoon about a body in the river near the former Algoma Hardwoods building, where the Ahnapee is crossed by Perry Street (County S). Police and fire squads responded but the man was dead at the scene.
An autopsy will take place with results expected in the next week. Identification was withheld pending notification of relatives.
