Manure runoff from Kewaunee County CAFO confirmed in town of Carlton

Posted

CARLTON - People in the vicinity of Wakker Dairy who use well water should monitor their water after manure runoff was reported at the farm Monday afternoon, according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

The manure ran into a ditch that flows into Sandy Bay Creek near County J and State 42, according to a post on the DNR's website. The dairy farm, a concentrated animal feeding operation with about 3,000 cows, is working to clean up the spill.

Neighbors should monitor well water for changes in taste, smell or color. If changes occur, they should switch to an alternate water source and call DNR Water Supply Specialist Sara Fry at 920-662-5147.
