Alex Dellis scored 17 points in each half, as the Algoma boys basketball team handed Southern Door its first loss of the season, in a conference showdown Tuesday.

The Kewaunee County Board finished the year with a flurry of resolutions, including one in support of expanding the boundaries of a new Lake Michigan Marine Sanctuary.

The first Algoma Youth Pool Tournament was held at the Youth Club in Algoma. The winners of the elementary division were: Cole Younk, Javin Charles and Ryan Pierre.

10 Years Ago: 2006

Elmer and Bertha Delveaux celebrated 65 years of marriage with a Mass at St. Louis church in Dyckesville on Nov. 5.

Melissa and Craig Cherney, Kewaunee, are the parents of a son born Nov. 17, at Holy Family Hospital in Manitowoc.

Senior Zak Michiels was selected "Student of the Quarter" by Luxemburg-Casco High School student representatives, based on his academic achievements, extra curricular activities and leadership.

25 Years Ago: 1991 

The lighting of Kewaunee's "Love Light Tree" will take place on Thursday. November  21. with 11-year-old Randy Jacobs having the honor of turning on the lights.

Algoma's one-act play "Rebel Without a Cause" earned three advances at the sectional on Friday, to qualify for the State meet for the 20th year in a row.

Bishop Robert Banks concelebrated the funeral of Ann and Cecelia Cadigan last Thursday with Rev. Richard Gilsdorf and Fr. Dennis Burke at Holy Trinity parish. Fr. Burke, former college president at St. Norbert College, is a cousin of the Cadigans.

40 Years Ago: 1976

Marine Pfc. Daniel Gregorich, Route 3, Kewaunee, was promoted to his present rank upon graduation from recruit training at San Diego. A graduate of Kewaunee High School in 1976, he joined the Marine Corps on October 1976.

The Peninsula Belgian American Club at Namur will host a potluck Christmas party on Sunday, December 12, at the Belgian Inn in Namur.

Friends and relatives attended the 45th wedding anniversary celebration in honor of Mr. and Mrs. George Bellin at Coun's Hall in Brussels on Saturday evening.

50 Years Ago: 1966

The Algoma fire department received a report of a fire in the Richard Mraz woods, south of Cty Trunk X, in the Town of Ahnapee on Tuesday. Before the trucks reached the scene, the alarm was cancelled. It was learned the fire was a brush fire.

Len Ferris has agreed to take on the task of cubmaster for Algoma's prospective Cub Scout Pack 112. The Pack committee consists of Len Charles, chairman; Joe Glime, secretary and Ken Haack, treasurer.

A proposal for a $6,000 pay base for beginning teachers with a bachelor's degree plus a 5% increment for experience was the principal feature of a new pay proposal submitted to the Algoma Unified School Board.

60 Years Ago: 1956

The Algoma Youth Club has received a large beaded screen as a memorial to the late Roger Reinert. It will be used with the new sound projector the club recently received as a memorial to the late Harry Katch.

Judith Prokash as been elected to Sigma Epsilon Sigma, honorary society for college freshman women at Carroll College in Waukesha. She was a 1955 graduate of Algoma High School.

A 7 o'clock surprise dinner was held at St. Paul's Lutheran church in honor of the 35th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hoppe on Saturday night.

75 Years Ago: 1941

The Kewaunee High School debaters returned from the invitational tournament at Clintonville with 9 victories in 12 contests.

Christmas shopping got into full swing this week, as all merchants completed their displays of holiday merchandise. Shoppers realized that "Shop Early" is more than a slogan this year.

While it is possible that a quota of registrants will be sent to Milwaukee this month for physical exams, there is little probability that a draft quota will be sent to training camp before the holidays.

90 Years Ago: 1926

The new Rosewood cheese factory, built to replace the building destroyed by fire, will be finished within a week. It was erected at cost of $10,000.

At the annual meeting of the Legion Auxiliary, Mrs. J.J. Jerabek was elected president. Others elected were Mrs. Earl Sibilsky, vice president; Mrs. L.C. Heidman, treasurer; and Mrs. H.V. Foshion, secretary.

A pretty wedding was solemnized at Holy Trinity church in Casco when Miss Emily Paul of Casco married Nelson Guilette of Rosiere. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Joseph Vondracek.

100 Years Ago: 1916

The Majestic Bowling Club journeyed to Kewaunee and took the honors after beating the All Stars of our sister city by 63 pins in a three-game match.

The first PTA meeting was held at the Algoma High School on Tuesday evening, with 150 people present. Those present were encouraged to mix and mingle with all others.

Congressman Thomas F. Konop paid a tribute to Kewaunee County's two volunteer soldiers who served on the Mexican border, by naming them as candidates to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Charles Wing of Kewaunee was appointed principal, Haney Ihlenfeldt of Algoma was named second alternative and Henry Vermeulin of DePere was appointed first alternative.

110 Years Ago: 1906

The season is not yet over, but indications are that a record-breaking number of deer will be killed this season. Some successful hunters so far are Rudolph Bruemmer, John Melchior, George Marr and William Hilton.

A ceremony performed by Justice of the Peace Charles Monihan united Frank Holup and Miss Mary Tlachac, both of Lincoln, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wolter.

Last Tuesday afternoon Frank Wodsedalek was united in marriage with Miss Anne Jerabek, both of Casco. They were married in the office of the court commissioner.

120 Years Ago: 1896

William Lorge has arranged for getting a large amount of wood this winter from lands near the James Tuffts saw mill in the southeastern part of Forestville.

The elevated walks on the north harbor pier are expected to be completed today. The work was done by the government.

Rev. Hinton will be ordained a priest on Sunday. The ordination will take place at Stevens Point along with four others.

It is reported that Albert Hoppe intends to keep his creamery at Rio Creek running during the coming winter.

A polo club has been organized and, after practicing a few weeks, the players will endeavor to arrange games with clubs in some of the neighboring towns.

The schooner Graham Bros., owned by George Fellows of Racine, has been lying in the harbor for several weeks. It may be placed in winter quarters here.
