If an April 7 school referendum passes, Hillcrest School will be razed and the land under it will be turned into athletic fields for the newer Kewaunee grade and high school.
Former Kewaunee County Conservationist Andy Wallander will receive the Environmental Citizen of the Year award. It will be presented by the Clean Water Action Council in Green Bay on April 11.

Anthony Gregerson, Algoma, who is in the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Science at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville was named to the Dean's List for the 2005 fall semester.
Lori and Donald Kinjerski, Kewaunee, are the parents of a daughter born Monday, March 13, at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay.
Shelli Johnson, Dyckesville, has recently joined the Animal House Pet Clinic, owned by Dr. Patrick Warpinski, as a groomer.

A new church between Algoma and Kewaunee on Hwy. 42 will serve parishioners from both communities. Construction will be assisted by members of Mission Builders, retired craftsmen who work for minimal wages to help construct church buildings.
A team of second-graders from Holy Trinity School in Casco is headed for Stevens Point on April 20 to compete in the Odyssey of the Mind state competition.
40 Years Ago: 1976
Last year, 15,154 drivers were convicted in Wisconsin traffic courts on the charge of "operating while intoxicated", according to the governor's highway safety coordinator.
Coffee Day, an event sponsored by the Easter Seal Society of Wisconsin and participating restaurants, is set for April 13. Coffee Day buttons are being sold and those wearing buttons will be served free coffee on that day.
50 Years Ago: 1966
Kathleen Knipfer and Bonnie Thielke, eighth-graders at St. Mary's school, Algoma, were among 168 contestants in the Green Bay Diocese Spelldown on Sunday. Kathy outlasted 152 before she went down with the word "supersede."
The Kewaunee council has authorized Mayor Thomas Kelliher to write the Wisconsin Electric Power Co. to suggest Kewaunee as a site for a nuclear generating unit, which is under consideration.

Neale LeMense, Rosiere, has his license and is now an amateur radio operator. His call numbers are KN9CEF. He would be happy to hear from other "ham" operators.
Two Algoma students are among the 83 students at Carroll College in Waukesha named to the honor roll for grades received at the end of the fall semester. Ramona Mau received an average of 2.62 and Judith Prokash, 2.55. Both are freshmen.
In the Kewaunee race for mayor, incumbent C.F. Temby is opposed by Jerome J. Reinke and George J. Villers.

Harris Gilson underwent an appendectomy operation recently. He is employed in Green Bay, but is spending a few days recovering with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Florian Gilson, in Rosiere.
Among the new arrivals in Algoma this week was a 9-pound baby girl born to Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Entringer, early Wednesday. Mrs. Entringer is the former Miss Dolores Tiedtke.
An announcement is being made of a marriage ceremony performed in Dubuque, Iowa, in which Miss Lauraine Holub, Town of Ahnapee, became the bride of Clifford Lienau of Sawyer. The couple will make their home in Sturgeon Bay.

The Kewaunee County Farm now has electric light and power service. A line from Rankin to the farm has been completed, and farmers along the route are subscribing to the service.
A petition signed by 350 tax payers of West Kewaunee seeking to detach from the Kewaunee High School district has been filed. This is the third attempt at withdrawal.
Miss Evelyn Worachek of Slovan underwent an operation for the removal of her appendix, at the Cmeyla Hospital last Saturday.

Judge W.H. Timlin has announced he will not be a candidate for re-election to the state Supreme Court, due to ill health.
William Lain and Helen Majchorzak were married at the home of his sister, Mrs. Ezra Gauthier, in Kewaunee on Thursday. Justice Bohman officiated.
Rev. O. Braem pastor of the Lutheran church at Rankin; was laid to rest Monday. He had been pastor there for 22 years.

The W. Seyk Company has commenced the manufacture of barley pancake flour, which has been meeting with satisfaction.
There is every indication that the proposal to erect a new opera house in Kewaunee will go through. The cost will be in the neighborhood of $12,000.
Arden Fensel got in the way of a swinging bat playing baseball on Tuesday. He fractured his nasal appendage.
120 Years ago: 1896
The diphtheria epidemic has been checked in the Alaska neighborhood and the public school has reopened.
The present winter has perhaps set a record for mildness. There has been very little snow and very few days of fog.
Joseph Filz has disposed of his store in Luxemburg to his son, Nick Filz.
