Posted

ALGOMA – Roots Yoga and Healing will host Chair Yoga, Yoga Therapeutics and a Stress Resilience workshop. Chair Yoga will be held on Thursdays at 10 a.m. beginning Thursday, April 16. Yoga Therapeutics will be held on Mondays at 9 a.m. from May through September. A Stress Resilience workshop will be held Sunday, May 3 from 1-5 p.m.

Chair Yoga, led by Vickie Daoust, is a safe and effective way to practice yoga and still benefit from what yoga has to offer. This class will incorporate breath work for the nervous system, movement to support joints and muscles and poses to improve health and well-being. Chair Yoga can be a part of your toolbox to keep you healthy as you age.

Vickie lives near Brussels with her husband Arden, and black lab Maddi. She has been a yoga student for 50 years and a yoga teacher for eight years, mainly at the ADRC in Sturgeon Bay. Vickie has 200 hours of training in Sivananda Yoga and she is currently training with Kristine Weber at Subtle Yoga online.

Yoga Therapeutics, led by Mary Hilliker, will help to strengthen and mobilize muscles that support upper and lower back, hips and knees, neck and shoulders. This class also promises to cultivate better balance, unwind stored tension and more. It will include yoga postures, guided relaxation and short accessible breathing practices. Yoga Therapeutics is useful for a wellness or therapeutic approach to yoga.

An Ancient Wisdom, Modern Hacks: Yoga Stress Resilience workshop will also be led by Mary Hilliker. This workshop will explore yoga postures, adaptations, short accessible breathing, meditation practices and guided relaxation.

Included will be three take-home yoga practices focusing on energizing, improving focus, dealing with a poor night’s sleep, handling stress, managing gut health and more. This workshop will conclude with a luxurious 45 minute sound bath, led by Jamie Schmiling of Roots Yoga and Healing, to help access deep relaxation and rejuvenation. This workshop qualifies for four hours of continuing education for yoga teachers who are registered with Yoga Alliance.

Mary has been teaching yoga for 27 years and providing Yoga Therapy for 17 years. She is a Certified Viniyoga Teacher and Yoga Therapist. Mary is qualified to train Yoga Teachers and offer Continuing Education. Mary enjoys teaching practices that help you discover tools for everyday life so that you can do what you love. Mary is returning to Roots Yoga and Healing to teach classes for the third summer.

Beginner and experienced students are welcome to join all classes and the workshop. Chair Yoga and Yoga Therapeutics are drop-in classes. The Stress Resilience workshop requires registration.
