At what age did you start playing your main sport?

Growing up, I was always surrounded by family and friends who pursued athletics and running. When I was little, I used to find ways to sneak into my dad’s track practices at the high school so I could try and race the upperclassmen. I began running and competing in cross country and track when I was in seventh grade.

Who introduced you to the sport?

My father, who is actually my coach, I would go with my dad to track practices and watch everyone doing different drills and events. I was aspired to be like those athletes as I grew up.

Has this always been your favorite sport?

Yes, I had no doubt in my mind that this would be my favorite sport. Track is timeless. The ability to form a family like relationship with your teammates and try things you never thought you’d be capable of.

What is your favorite part about this sport? What about it has caused you to stick with it for this long

I think my favorite thing about track is that you have to expect the unexpected. Placements times don’t matter, it’s how you execute in a race or field event. The weather and conditions could be horrible but you have to embrace it.

Is there a professional athlete you look up to? If so, who?

Sydney McLaughlin, she’s an incredible athlete and I love watching her compete.

What would you say is your biggest asset on the field/court/ice?

My biggest assets on the track would be my mindset, attitude and my determination each race.

What has been your most memorable experience in high school sports so far?

Competing at state track with my 4x4 relay team my junior year. Running on the red track in lacrosse will be a moment my teammates and I treasure forever.

How does it feel as a senior, to look back throughout high school and see your growth?

I’ve experienced many struggles throughout high school but I can happily say I’m proud of the individual I have become. I have persevered and conquered many things I didn’t think I’d be able to do as a student athlete. I have no regrets.

Do you have any pre-match rituals/routines/superstitions?

I always have to eat some sliced up peppers and drink a Redbull for energy before entering a meet.

Any memorable coaches or teammates you’d like to give a shout out to?

All of my coaches throughout my cross country and track career. They have pushed be to become the athlete I am now. My teammates are everything to me and I am so grateful they are in my life. I think my biggest role model was Hannah Derenne, my teammate during my freshman year. I knew I wanted to possess her empathy, faith, and compassion like she had done for me.

Any hobbies outside of sports?

You can always find me up north swimming and reading a good book.

Favorite song?

“Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls

Sports drinks like Gatorade and Powerade or water?

Water. Always.

Future plans?

I will be attending Bellin College to pursue a degree in nursing.
