Vandervest

School: Algoma

Sport: Football

Parents: Wade and Jodi Vandervest

How frustrating is it to be at home now instead of playing in the postseason because enrollment at Algoma High is a handful of students too high to allow you to participate?

It’s disappointing because no matter what we accomplish as a team we still wouldn’t be able to be in the playoffs because of something unrelated to football.

What’s unique/fun about playing the 8-player format from your perspective (as a player who regularly racks up 200+ yards rushing)?

With 8-player football there are 6 less people on the field.  This means more space to maneuver and more one on one opportunities for big plays.

What has been your most memorable moment as a member of the Wolves football team?

This past season when we came back down 36-8 against Wausaukee to win the game.

Tell us a little bit about what it’s like to play on a team coached by your father:

It feels the same as any other team I’ve played on.  We made it clear from my first year that I was just one of the players, and after practice he was dad again.

What are your plans for after high school?

I hope to attend UW-Platteville for engineering

What are your parents’ names?

Wade and Jodi Vandervest (I love my mom)

Do you have any siblings?

I have a sister Julia, who is in her second year at UW-Stevens Point.
