Packers get win in season of highs and lows; holiday events in Kewaunee

Posted

Finally.

After losing three games in a row, the Green Bay Packers finally got its stuff together and defeated their fiercest rival, the Chicago Bears, at Soldier Field last Sunday. And the fact that it happened in Chicago was just frosting on the cake.

This week, the Baltimore Ravens are coming to Lambeau Field. I hope the team can keep it together for another week. It has certainly been a season of highs and lows.

The Packers have been hit with a rash of injuries this season. It makes me wonder if the players have the proper conditioning. Maybe it's time to look at the strength and conditioning coaching. Every year this team has a lot of injuries, but this year seems worse than ever. Are they getting the proper conditioning? It definitely is something that could and should be looked at.

• This weekend will be a busy one in Kewaunee, beginning Nov. 17 at Lakehaven Hall, at the east end of Ellis Street downtown.

There is a Holiday Lights Parade beginning at 6:30 p.m. that day. It starts in the parking lot at the school and ends up downtown at Lakehaven. I'm fortunate because it goes right past my house and I can watch it from my warm living room.

There will be activities at Lakehaven Hall all weekend, including the Christkindlmarkt shopping Friday and Saturday, so come to Kewaunee and check it out. It includes activities for adults and children and specials at local businesses. They promise something for everyone. Check the Kewaunee Area Chamber of Commerce website for further details.

• I had forgotten how dark and dreary many days in November can be as the season changes. Oh, to see the sun again.

But, according to the forecast, that isn't going to happen anytime soon. And I'm not looking forward to what lies ahead.

According to predictions, we are in for a snowy winter. Not looking forward to that, either. But we can't do anything about it, so we may as well accept it, whatever it is.

• I had a call from Cindy Herm of the Green Bay Women's Bowling Association. The Kewaunee association merged with Green Bay a few years ago.

There are some of us from Kewaunee who help them make holiday gift baskets for veterans housed in local assisted living facilities. Many of those vets don't have any friends or relatives who are still living.

The bowling association does this so the vets all know that someone still cares and appreciates their service to the country. It's because of those brave military men and women that we still have our freedom of speech. Citizens in many countries can't speak their opinions without facing severe consequences. So, thanks to all of you.

Have a great week, everyone.
