Paul James Kuehl died on June 16, 2026, after a long battle with dementia, at the age of 82. His family would like to thank both the staff at Angel’s Touch where Paul spent his last years and the nurses and staff of Moments Hospice for their exemplary care.

Paul was born on July 6, 1943, to Doris and Harold Kuehl in Kewaunee Wisconsin. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Manitowoc Wisconsin on June 7, 1961. Paul attended UW Madison briefly prior to entering the Army. While enrolled he served in both Turkey and Vietnam during the Vietnam War. For his service, he received the Army Commendation Medal which is awarded to those members of the Armed Forces who, while serving in any capacity with the Army, distinguish themselves by heroism, outstanding achievement, or meritorious service. He returned safely to Green Bay in 1970. Paul then started taking classes at UW Green Bay and graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He worked in Green Bay with IBM for 20+ years as well as a few other smaller companies, all in human resources, prior to retiring.

Paul was a life-time lover of sports, especially tennis. He started playing in high school where he was a member of the tennis club. Paul honed his skills further while in Turkey during his Army years and played multiple times a week. He was often a tennis coach for small children at the local racket club but also was the assistant coach of his daughter’s high school team at St. Joseph Academy. In his later years, one could find him watching high school sports and of course the Green Bay Packers during football season. Running also kept Paul in great shape. He was on countless softball teams in his adult life and was also one heck of a bowler. Paul always found the best shells on Sanibel Island.

Paul was raised with his feet firmly planted in the Lutheran church and had an unwavering moral compass. He volunteered for years at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Green Bay in many roles. Paul helped others when and how he could, especially those unable to help themselves. Family was important to him and there were always many gatherings for celebrations.

Paul will be missed by his daughter, Courtney Johnson (Joe); his sister, Mary Merryfield (Darryl); his two nieces, Dawn Schwartz (Tim) and Amy Nelson, as well as other great nieces and nephews, many cousins and his best friend of 18 years, a cat named Silly Willy (formally known as Sir William of Brule).

People can pay their respects on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 120 Henry Street in Green Bay, starting with the visitation from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Funeral Service at 10:30 a.m. at the church with Rev. David Hatch officiating. Full Military Honors will follow. Paul will be buried at Riverview Cemetery in Kewaunee. Online condolences will can be made by visiting www.prokowall.com.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the USTA Midwest Tennis & Education Foundation which provides scholarships, wheelchair tennis opportunities, and youth programs. They can be found at https://midwesttennisfoundation.com.
