Paulsen, Riha and Ray among Packerland’s top spring stars

It was a clean sweep for Kewaunee senior southpaw Brett Paulsen, who was named the Packerland Conference baseball Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.

Meanwhile, Kewaunee senior Breanna Riha and Algoma junior Natalie Ray were named Packerland softball’s co-Players of the Year.

Two other players that many believed would win Player of the Year honors — senior pitchers Macie Zimmerman of Algoma and Alanah Kaye of Southern Door — both received 1st Team All-Packerland honors, as did Ray (catcher), Riha (infielder) and Storm senior Vivian Bootz (outfielder).

On the baseball side of things, Kewaunee had three unanimous first-team selections: Paulsen, sophomore catcher Calvin Kolmorgen, and senior infielder Waylon Delain. Senior outfielder Connor Kilgore and sophomore infielder Diesel Bosdeck also made the first team, as did Algoma senior Braeden Leist (outfield) and junior Charlie Prokash (pitcher).

Second-teamers included freshman catcher Cal DeMeuse and sophomore utility player and DH Jacob Massey, both of Algoma, and Kewaunee’s Dane Harrel (sophomore) and Blake Temme (junior), both infielders. Storm senior outfielder Alec Carlson received honorable mention.

In softball, second-team honors went to Kewaunee juniors Ali Repitz (pitcher), London Karnopp (sophomore) and Kambriea Last (Infielder). Storm senior Mariah Schleis and Wolves’ junior Amya Lukes both received honorable mention.

In girls soccer, two Kewaunee players — freshman midfielder Sofia Torres and sophomore midfielder Elynor Heidel — received honorable mention.
