TWO RIVERS - Some Kewaunee County residents may hear sirens going off when Point Beach Nuclear Plant in Two Rivers performs maintenance on sirens within a 10-mile radius of the plant between Sept. 25 and Oct. 6.
The sirens are in Kewaunee and Manitowoc counties, and people in nearby areas may hear the sirens activated for one to three minutes and notice activity taking place around them as part of the maintenance, the Kewaunee County Emergency Management department said in a press release.
The operation is routine maintenance to ensure the sirens are in good working order should they need to be activated in case of an actual emergency. This comes on the heels of an ingestion pathway emergency response exercise the county held with Point Beach on Sept. 19 and 20.
Those who have concerns about the maintenance and whether activity around the sirens is related to it can call 920-845-9700 or 920-388-3100 for verification. For actual emergencies, call 911.
