KEWAUNEE - The owner of two popular Algoma eateries is expanding locations to open a new restaurant in Kewaunee.
The popular food items at Skaliwags and the Algoma Burger Company will be merged into one expanded menu when Uncorked by Skaliwags opens in the former Cork Restaurant & Pub. Chris Wiltfang is the owner and head chef at the restaurants.
The Kewaunee restaurant will open sometime in March, said Ellen Calkins, the catering and events manager for Skaliwags. It will be open evenings and hours will expand as the need arises, she said.
Skaliwags also recently purchased a former restaurant in Sturgeon Bay with plans to open a restaurant at the site in about a year.
Uncorked by Skaliwags will combine the best of both burgers and dinners served at the Algoma sites, while also serving more Wisconsin fare to include prime rib and Friday fish fry, Calkins said.
The tradition of serving hand-crafted cocktails also will continue at Uncorked by Skaliwags, she said.
Among the popular menu items are the build-your-own burger, which features 70 possible toppings, fresh Hawaiian seafood and prime cuts of steak, Calkins said.
The new restaurant is larger than the Algoma site, with the capacity to host wedding dinners and other large events, she said.
"We want to expand the brand and make room to serve more people and Kewaunee is a good location for that," Calkins said.
