LUXEMBURG — Wilson’s Wish, a five-acre animal sanctuary located just north of Luxemburg, was founded back in 2019 by Dave and Tonya Edwards to provide animals with a second first impression.
The idea of this organization took root when the couple took in a loving Great Pyrenees named Wilson who knew nothing but neglect for much of his prior life.
The couple said that in his last two years before he passed, he showed joy and love toward every new face he met, adding that the impact he left on the people he encountered was inspiring.
After his passing, Dave and Tonya moved out of the city with the hopes of fostering senior and special needs dogs.
They received another call about a dog who needed a home, his name was Moe.
Moe quickly made clear that he was not a fan of sharing attention with other dogs, so the idea of moving to farm animals was brought forward.
What started out as an idea quickly turned into two alpacas, two potbellied pigs, three donkeys and many chickens.
Soon realizing they needed more space to create a suitable home for all of these loving animals they moved to their current location back in December of 2020.
They are now home to just over 55 animals who have come to them from a variety of circumstances, from neglect to special needs cases to needing a place to call home for their “retirement years.”
The Edwards are no strangers to second chances and they understand the impact one small act can have on someone’s life.
Wilson’s Wish will host a fundraising event on Feb. 10 called “SOUP…Der, It Is!” that offers live music, trivia, a silent auction, craft brews and a soup cook-off.
The event takes place at Thumbknuckle Brewing from noon to 6 p.m.
