GREEN BAY – With the help of a five-run second inning, the Shoreland League All Stars were victorious over the Door County League All Stars on July 13 at Joannes Stadium in Green Bay, 6-4.

The “home team” Door County All Stars jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. The lead-off batter reached on a single and stole second base.

The next two DC batters would strike out before the cleanup hitter would drive the run in on a single to go up 1-0.

In the top of the second, Shoreland’s bats came alive.

Owen Guerts (Ashwaubenon) got things started, leading off the inning with a single and he was followed by a walk by Mitch Jandrin (Casco).

Guerts would score Shoreland’s first run on a single by Joe Anderson (Kewaunee).

Brady Kita (Algoma) reached on a fielder’s choice and stole second base before Josh LaFleur (Ashwaubenon) drove in Jandrin for the second run of the inning.

Casey Stanzel (Branch) singled to load the bases.

With the bases loaded, Trevor Cornell (Ashwaubenon) drew a walk to bring in the third run.

August Hecker (Branch) followed that up with a double down the left field line to bring in the final two runs of the inning and extend the lead to 5 to 1.

Shoreland sent 11 batters to the plate in the inning.

After an uneventful third and fourth innings for both teams, Door County put up two runs in the fifth, aided by a Shoreland error and a steal of a home on a double steal to cut the lead to 5-3.

Both teams settled down again until the eighth. In the bottom of the inning, Door County’s lead-off batter struck out but reached on a wild pitch and then got to second base on another wild pitch before scoring on a single to bring his team within one run.

The DC offense put runners on first and third but the inning ended on a fielder’s choice.

Shoreland would get an insurance run in the top of the ninth.

Tim Yeager (Branch) reached on a single and advanced to second on a walk by Hayden Konkol (Denmark).

Yeager would score on a single by Austen Dart (Algoma) to extend the lead to two.

Trevor Cornell (Ashwaubenon) came in to shut the door in the ninth, retiring the side in order on a flyout and two strikeouts.

Six Shoreland pitchers worked in the game, combining for 14 strikeouts and walking only two batters.
