Six picked up in Kewaunee County drug busts

KEWAUNEE COUNTY- Six people were arrested Tuesday in Kewaunee County as part of a sweeping multi-county drug bust run by the Door-Kewaunee Drug Task Force.

The arrests are a culmination of an eight-month investigation into the sale and delivery of narcotics by the Door-Kewaunee Drug Task Force. More arrests are expected to occur in Kewaunee and Door counties throughout the week. At least 21 people have been arrested in Door County.

The people were arrested for a variation of possession and possession with intent to deliver, maintaining a drug location, and an enhancer for distribution near a school or park, said Kewaunee County Sheriff Matt Joski in an interview Wednesday.

“These all stem around the possession of pharmaceuticals, heroin and marijuana,” Joski said. “The bottom line is we want to root out any activity related to the sale and distribution of narcotics, and illegal substances in our community.”

Five of the six who were arrested appeared in court Wednesday for bond hearings. According to District Attorney Andrew Naze, they are Zachary T. Gum of Kewaunee, 17; Jesse L. Snodgrass of Kewaunee, 21; Jacob L. Jones of Algoma, 34; Jamey W. McCracken of Luxemburg, 19; and Joshua R. Duquaine of Casco, 24.

Gum is facing felony charges for manufacturing and/or delivering schedule I and II narcotics, manufacturing and delivering THC, and bail jumping. He was given a $5,000 signature bond and is scheduled to appear in court at 2 p.m. March 23.

Snodgrass is facing one felony charge of manufacturing and/or delivering schedule I and II narcotics. He was given a $2,500 signature bond and is scheduled to appear in court at 2 p.m. March 23.

Jones is facing two felony charges of manufacturing and/or delivering schedule I and II narcotics. He was given a $5,000 signature bond.

McCracken is facing one felony charge of manufacturing and/or delivering schedule I and II narcotics. He was given a $2,500 signature bond and is scheduled to appear in court at 2 p.m. March 23.

Duquaine is facing a felony charge of manufacturing and/or delivering greater than 3 grams of heroin. He was given a $500 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in court at 2 p.m. April 6.

Additional information is expected to be available after the Star-News press deadline.

“Information regarding the identity and correlating charges of those involved will be released once law enforcement has completed this specific investigation,” stated a Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Department news release.

Multiple local, state units worked on operation

According to Door County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Pat McCarty, law enforcement began work in Door County before 5 a.m. Monday and the first arrests were made around 7 a.m. The Drug Enforcement Administration, the Sturgeon Bay Police Department Door County SWAT Team, Wisconsin State Patrol and Kewaunee Police Department K9 unit, and the Brussels-Union-Gardner Fire Department assisted with various parts of the task force's operation.

"This has been an eight-month process. It started with small scale investigations that just continued to grow and grew to the point that we enlisted the aid of our federal partners in the DEA," McCarty said.

In Door County, search warrants were executed in the Town of Brussels and two were executed in the Town of Nasewaupee, a press release stated. A probation search was conducted in the Town of Sevastopol.

There were no totals available Tuesday for the amount of drugs seized, McCarty said.

Stahl of Forestville, 40; Ruthann Dachelet of Sturgeon Bay, 55; Anthony J. Isherwood of Clay Banks, 33; Ashley A. Tipler of Sturgeon Bay, 24; Andrew J. Mullins of Sturgeon Bay, 26; Christopher L. Kannal of Nasewaupee, 27; Alexis R. Stahl of Sturgeon Bay, 25; Brittany Fox-Brianne Nareski of Gladstone, Mich., 19; Patience A. Carmody of Sturgeon Bay, 17; Montana A. Gunnlaugsson of Sturgeon Bay, 18; Kayla M. Henderson of Forestville, 19; Lucas W. Ansell of Nasewaupee, 31; Robert J. Kluth of Sturgeon Bay, 23; Brandon R. Vogel of Sturgeon Bay, 2; Samuel S. Schmelzer of Brussels, 28; Megan Perez Jorns of Sturgeon Bay, 23; Anthony W. McKeever of De Pere, 24; and Kelly Mack of Sturgeon Bay, 28. An unnamed minor was also arrested during the sweep.
