ALGOMA – Join Friends of Crescent Beach and the Algoma Area Chamber of Commerce for a day of free, family-friendly fun at Algoma’s Crescent Beach on the shore of Lake Michigan.
The 10th Annual Soar on the Shore Kite and Beach Festival is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 17, 11 a.m. —4 p.m.
The Wisconsin Kiters Club will entertain with stunt kites, giant display kites and a kite candy blast (time will be determined on day-of based on wind/weather) for kids.
Stunt kite teams Fire & Ice and Three Sheets will perform to music, and kiters will be available to answer questions and offer tips for newcomers to kiting.
A public flying area will be designated for those who bring their own kites.
Children can enjoy a variety of activities, including a craft organized by ArtBeet, Inc. (while supplies last), street chalk drawing, sand play and more.
At 11:30 a.m., Bob Desh, former director of the Door County Maritime Museum, dressed in period costume, will fire a cannon and answer questions about the area’s maritime history.
An Algoma Fire Department fire truck will be present for kids of all ages to explore and ask questions of a firefighter.
The Algoma Public Library will create a boardwalk story walk and a scavenger hunt for families of all ages to enjoy.
In honor of the 10th anniversary, attendees are invited to contribute to a commemorative beach mosaic of painted rocks.
Bring your painted rocks to the event and help build a mosaic on the beach.
Parking for the festival is available on all city streets.
Handicap parking is designated with signage on Second Street by Legion Park.
Rain date is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 18.
