Luxemburg-Casco remained unbeaten in the North Eastern Conference Tuesday night, taking three of four sets at Freedom.
The Spartans won the first two 28-26 and 25-20 before losing the third, 24-26. L-C then took control in the fourth set, winning the match by a convincing 25-14 score. Aubrey Frey led L-C with 26 kills, and Claire Schleis had eight kills and a block.
Over the weekend, the Spartans tied for 13th out of 32 teams in one of the premier high school volleyball tournaments in the state, the Charger Challenge hosted by Sussex Hamilton High School.
L-C lost to the Divine Savior Holy Angels, beat Kettle Moraine and lost to West Bend West in pool play, then lost to Arrowhead and Xavier. Three of the losses were to top 5 teams in Div. 1 and Div. 2.
“This is always a tough tournament, and a great measuring stick for where we are and what we need to focus on for the second half of the season,” said Coach Jeff Frey. “We played well in spurts and learned a lot about ourselves. We just need to work on being more consistent.”
Claire Schleis had 45 assists, 18 kills and 20 digs; Stella Schleis 27 assists and 24 digs; Jenna Annoye 25 digs and four aces; and Frey 46 kills and 25 digs.
Meanwhile, Algoma lost to Gibraltar at home last Thursday by scores of 20-25, 16-25 and 9-25.
Natalie Ray, Sadie Rikkola and Lauren Loucks combined for 15 kills, and Ray and Rikkola combined for 40 receptions and 21 digs. Eva Liu had seven digs and 16 receptions, and Aleasha Granius and Mackenzie Lischka combined for 20 assists. Loucks had a pair of aces.
